Film Simulations and Live LUTs on iPhone

One of the most powerful features of Iris Pro is the ability to apply professional color grading live in the viewfinder using .cube LUTs (Look-Up Tables). This allows you to shoot with the aesthetic of classic film stocks right on your iPhone.

What are LUTs?

A LUT is essentially a mathematical formula that maps one color space to another. In cinema and professional photography, they are used to achieve specific "looks." By importing a .cube file into Iris Pro, you can transform the iPhone's digital sensor output into the rich, nuanced tones of analog film.

Popular Film Simulations

Kodak Portra 400

Known for its warm tones, excellent skin reproduction, and fine grain. A Portra LUT is ideal for portraits, street photography, and golden hour landscapes.

Fujifilm Superia 400

Characterized by cooler greens, punchy reds, and a slightly moody contrast. Perfect for urban environments, overcast days, and moody lifestyle shots.

Ilford HP5 (Black & White)

A classic monochrome look with rich contrast and distinct grain. Excellent for focusing on composition, texture, and light without the distraction of color.

How to Use Live LUTs in Iris Pro

  1. Import: Load your favorite .cube LUT files into Iris Pro via the Files app.
  2. Select: Tap the LUT icon in the viewfinder and choose your simulation.
  3. Adjust Intensity: Dial in the strength of the LUT for a subtle or dramatic effect.
  4. Shoot: The viewfinder displays the graded image in real-time. When shooting in Bayer RAW, the LUT is saved alongside the RAW data, giving you the film look immediately while retaining the ability to edit later.

Iris Pro is now available.
